Cubs claimed RHP Daniel Bard off waivers from the Red Sox. Bard, who was designated for assignment by Boston on Sunday, reunites with former boss Theo Epstein. The 28-year-old has been whipped to the tune of a 6.27 ERA over 60 1/3 big league innings the past two seasons, but he isn't too far removed from accruing a 2.88 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 197 innings between 2009-2011. Bard is arbitration eligible this season and will probably be guaranteed around three times the major league minimum through that process. Epstein can simply non-tender Bard over the winter if this little buy-low experience doesn't work out.
