Colome (pneumonia) is not expected to be ready for the start of the season, the Tampa Tribune reports. Along with teammates Drew Smyly (shoulder) and Alex Cobb (forearm), Colome's absence to begin the year will test the Rays' organizational depth on the mound. The Rays have not outlined a timetable for Colome's expected return, but it's likely that Nate Karns, Matt Andriese, and Burch Smith will receive chances to start in April. Colome's arrival to spring training was delayed by visa issues, and his setback with the illness will only further slow his effort to get stretched out and prepared to take the ball every fifth day.
