Clevenger is the favorite to win the backup catcher job, though he's been pushed in camp by Rob Brantly, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners traded Mark Trumbo and his contract for Clevenger in December. It would be a little surprising if he didn't win the job, but it's also surprising there's even a competition considering Brantly wasn't acquired until March 12. Both players are out of options, but the Mariners likely will try to sneak one through waivers. Both are also left-handed to start Chris Iannetta's right-handed bat. The backup figures to catch about 50-60 games.
