The Cubs claimed Herget off waivers from Atlanta and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Herget made eight appearances for Atlanta before being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Aug. 19, posting a 4.38 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 12.1 major-league innings. He was DFA'd by Atlanta on Wednesday, and after being claimed off waivers by the Club, he will stay in Triple-A and report to Iowa. Brennen Davis (ankle) was recalled from Iowa and transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.
