Chris Owings went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 victory over the Giants.
So far, so good for Arizona's rookie shortstop. At least in the batter's box, where he's 6-for-13 (.462) over four games. Owings made a critical fielding mistake that won't show up in the box score in the ninth inning Tuesday, overrunning a Hector Sanchez bloop down the left-field line. The would-be second out fell in (scored as a double), giving the Giants second base in a one-run game and leaving D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson shaking his head in the dugout. There will be growing pains, but Owings is a great talent at a premium position. He hit .330/.359/.482 with 104 runs, 12 homers, 81 RBI and 20 stolen bases over 125 games at Triple-A Reno last season.
