Chris Carpenter (shoulder) said Monday that he's not currently throwing and isn't optimistic about pitching this season. Carpenter wasn't originally expected to pitch at all this season, but he managed to ramp up a throwing program and even go out on a minor league rehab assignment. However, he shut things down late last month after feeling renewed numbness in his pitching hand. It sounds like a comeback will have to wait until 2014, if at all.
