Chris Carpenter (shoulder) allowed four runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings Saturday in his rehab start for Triple-A Memphis. He struck out two and walked two in the 74-pitch outing. It wasn't the kind of performance that's likely to get him right back into the major league rotation. At least one more rehab start is going to be necessary.
