Chen will receive the start for the Marlins in their April 5 opener against the Tigers, Shandel Richardson of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Jose Fernandez is unquestionably the ace of the Marlins' staff, the team has a plan in place to limit the 23-year-old's innings this season after he endured a few setbacks in 2015 following his mid-season return from Tommy John surgery. As a result, Chen will get the ball first for the Marlins, marking the first time the 30-year-old has served as an Opening Day starter. He put together a 3.34 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 191.1 innings with the Orioles last season, and seems like a good bet to improve those numbers while moving from one of baseball's strongest divisions to arguably its worst.
