Chen (elbow) received a cortisone shot in his sprained left elbow but is yet to begin throwing. The team remains optimistic that he will be available to contribute in September.

Chen has been limited to strengthening exercises since being placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 21. Manager Don Mattingly expects that Chen will begin to throwing the near future but a firm rehab timeline is not set. Meanwhile, the team may be searching for more depth in the rotation after the newly acquired Colin Rea joined Chen on the DL with an elbow injury of his own.
