Chen (5-4) gave up four runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings Wednesday's loss against the Phillies. He struck out five without a walk.
EDGE Analysis
Nine of the 11 hits were singles, which is why Chen was able to limit the damage reasonably well, all things being equal. Unfortunately, he's given up four or more runs on nine separate occasions among 19 starts, and six of those times have come in his last eight appearances. The long ball's been the biggest problem -- he's allowed 20 of them -- but mostly this has been a season of Chen's birds coming home to roost, as he'd outpitched his peripherals in the last two seasons. No longer.
