Chatwood started three games so far this spring, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.
EDGE Analysis
Chatty's excellent results on the road last season had him nearly locked in to a rotation spot this season, but the injuries to both Chris Rusin (oblique) and Chad Bettis (illness) have made the 27-year-old an integral part of Colorado's staff. His spring performance has been solid thus far, although the two home runs he's already yielded are a bit concerning given he'll be pitching half his games in Coors Field. This seems like more of a fluke than anything, however, as his groundball/flyball ratio has consistently sat well above 2.00 over his past four seasons in the big leagues. Chatwood will need to prove that he can maintain his effectiveness over the entire course of the season though, as he petered out toward the end of last season and gave up more than one home run per nine innings.
