Chase Headley (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake Elsinore on Friday. He'll be a designated hitter initially during the rehab assignment, as Headley doesn't have any issues with his left thumb when he hits but is still a little sore when he closes his glove. The Padres haven't said how many rehab games he needs, but he seems likely to be ready in a week or so. He'll obviously be a welcome addition to the lineup, especially with Carlos Quentin facing a suspension.
