he's being outrighted to the minors....but since he's out of options, all teams have an opportunity to claim him prior to him being sent to AAA.

That's my point. Why trade for him if you're going to waive him outright? Hard to understand the logic here.

He has to be outrighted to be sent to AAA......My guess is that since the Cubs had already designated him for assignment, the Dodgers picked up his ridiculous contract and figure that no other team will claim him on waivers. (Which is highly likely since a team that picked him up would be responsible for his contract as well). The Dodgers get their player to AAA where he can work on his mechanics and possibly add depth to the bullpen in case of injury or during September callups.

The simple fact is that Marmol has no option years left.......the Dodgers want him in the minors.....to get him there, he must clear waivers
