Carpenter is out of the lineup Monday against the Pirates. This looks like nothing more than a day off for Carpenter, his first since June 17. Daniel Descalso will assume duties at the hot corner as Jon Jay leads off against right-hander Gerrit Cole. Carpenter went just 3-for-24 in his last eight games of August to end the month with a .248/.369/.371 batting line.
