Carpenter has been on a tear as of late, recording seven hits in his last 16 at-bats, five of which were of the extra-base variety, but he will get the night off with the Cardinals resting a handful of their regular starts in preparation for the postseason. Mark Reynolds will get the start at third base in his place and hit fifth in the batting order.
