Carlos Gonzalez is "way ahead of schedule after appendectomy and hernia surgery," Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports.
CarGo had the emergency surgery on January 11 and was cleared for physical activity less than two weeks later. With Dexter Fowler gone, Renck said the 28-year-old could conceivably play in center field this year, a position he hasn't played since 2011, but Rockies manager Walt Weiss expressed a desire to give some other candidates a shot this spring in hopes of keeping Gonzalez in left -- and keeping his legs fresh this season. Whether it's in left or center, it looks like CarGo should be ready to roll for Opening Day.
