Cardinals placed RHP Chris Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with nerve irritation in his throwing shoulder. St. Louis is hoping Carpenter will be able to return in May and doesn't believe the shoulder injury will linger. Lance Lynn will hold down a rotation spot in the meantime.
