Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Monday that the timeline for Chris Carpenter (shoulder) to return is "open-ended." Carpenter continues to strengthen his shoulder after neck pain and nerve issues forced him to begin the season on the disabled list, but it's estimated that he'll need a minimum of 5-6 weeks of recovery and conditioning once he's ready to return to the mound. As a result, it's increasingly unlikely that the veteran right-hander return prior to the All-Star break. Fortunately for the Cardinals, Lance Lynn has emerged during his absence.
