Cain's (elbow) first spring start went well, as he shut down the Dodgers over two perfect innings, needing only 20 pitches to get the job done.
Cain was going to be limited to 30 pitches Monday, but he was so efficient that he only needed 20 pitches (13 strikes) to get through two innings. Even more impressive was the fact that the Dodgers rolled out a lineup similar to what they will use on Opening Day. After the game, Buster Posey stated that Cain, "looked great" and that everything was "very smooth and rhythmic and effortless." Cain's fastball was sitting around 90 MPH and topped out at 92 MPH on the day. Of course, all spring training performances should be taken with a grain of salt, but judging from the look and feel of Cain on the mound today, a bounce-back season could be in store for the big righty.
