Cain has won San Franciso's fifth starting job, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.

Cain was awful this spring, posting a 7.82 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 25.1 innings. Ty Blach, however, wasn't able to do enough to steal the job from the 32-year-old Cain. The Giants will give the veteran a chance to rediscover the magic of his early career, but Cain hasn't posted an ERA below 4.00 since 2012. Blach will make the team as a reliever and could take Cain's job if Cain struggles out of the gate once again.
