Cain (arm) has been medically cleared to return to the field and will make his 2016 spring training debut Friday against the Padres, CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cain's spring training came to a screeching halt before it even began when he had to have a cyst removed from his upper arm. Injuries have plagued Cain over the past couple of seasons, but luckily this procedure was not related to the bone chips that were removed from his elbow a season ago. He threw two 15-pitch innings Monday, and the 31-year-old Cain said he felt fine. In terms of fantasy value, he was already a fringe pitching option and the shortened spring doesn't help his stock. It will be a wait-and-see approach for those in standard leagues.
