Byrd is hitting .417 this spring, but said he isn't yet where he wants to be. "Not yet. I need to start driving the ball to right-center field and start seeing more sliders and more curveballs," Byrd said. "When I'm able to stay over the middle of the field consistently, I'll be good." Byrd will likely hit fifth or sixth in the Reds lineup, depending on what the team decides to do with Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips. If Phillips hits towards the top of the order, he could drop to as low as seventh.
