Buehrle (11-8) was lit up by the visiting Orioles on Tuesday, getting blasted for 10 hits -- two of them homers -- while giving up four earned runs in four innings. He also struck out three and walked three in the loss.
At this rate, the once 10-1 Buehrle is in real danger of somehow finishing the season at .500 or worse -- remarkable considering his torrid start to the season. His ERA has shot up from 2.10 to 3.27 since June 1, an 11-start span in which he's served up 11 bombs in 64.2 innings after giving up just two in his first 81 innings from April to June. Buehrle's struggles and inability to keep the ball down, mixed with a variety of other issues -- primarily offensive -- are a big reason why the Jays blew the AL East lead and now sit five games back of the Orioles. The 35-year-old draws a very tough matchup in his next start Sunday against the Tigers.
