Buchanan will start Friday against the Reds, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

Jason Hammel was scratched with an elbow issue and Buchanan will step in for his third career start at the major league level (first since 2014). The 27-year-old right-hander has made just one appearance since his September callup and that was all the way back on Sept. 5, when he threw one inning (16 pitches) against Milwaukee. It will likely amount to a bullpen game for Chicago.
