Buchanan (1-0) fired five innings of scoreless, two-hit ball in Friday's 7-3 victory over the Reds, giving up only one walk and striking out three.

The 27-year-old excelled in what was only his third major league start, filling in admirably for Jason Hammel (elbow). Buchanan's only other 2016 appearance at the big league level was against the Brewers on Sep. 5, when he'd worked an inning out of the bullpen in a 7-2 Cubs victory. He wraps up his first season in the Chicago organization with a 1.50 ERA over six innings, and a solid 12-8 record at the Triple-A level.
