Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says that the Pirates have kept in touch with shortstop Clint Barmes. The Pirates are looking for a capable defensive shortstop to pair with Jordy Mercer. Barmes doesn't bring much with the bat, but he consistently rates among baseball's best defensive shortstops year after year.
