Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Thompson underwent thoracic outlet surgery in September and started spring slowly, but he's been able to make three Grapefruit League appearances. While he'll miss out on the Opening Day roster, he should get plenty of chances this season as the Rays rotate through their relievers with options.
