The Cardinals activated Carlson (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. He's batting third and playing right field against the Tigers.

A sprain right wrist sent Carlson to the IL on Aug. 17, but he missed the minimum time and is back in action with St. Louis. Before the injury he had gotten into a groove at the plate, hitting .359 with three doubles, a home run and three RBI in his last 10 games. Austin Dean was optioned to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move Tuesday.
