Avila left Saturday's game with lower back stiffness and he is considered day-to-day, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The veteran catcher's back tightened up on him during the course of Saturday's contest and he had to exit the contest. To make matters worse, Avila has struggled at the dish all spring, collecting just one hit in his first 16 at-bats. Fortunately, his plate discipline has shone through as he's drawn seven walks against 11 strikeouts. There's no indication at this point that Avila's back soreness will put his status for Opening Day in jeopardy.
