Athletics assistant general manager David Forst confirmed that the club plans to continue negotiating with Stephen Drew.

The A's declined the $10 million mutual option on Drew's contract for 2013 on Monday, but that won't have an impact on their efforts to bring him back. "I think we have reason to be optimistic, but free agency has a way of changing the equation, so we'll pursue all options," said Forst. Drew, who turns 30 in March, batted .250/.326/.382 with five homers and a .707 OPS in 39 games with the Athletics.
