The Oakland Athletics placed catcher Josh Phegley (thumb) on the injured list on Wednesday with a left thumb contusion and recalled catcher Beau Taylor from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Phegley has been Oakland's primary catcher this year and was hitting a mediocre .243/.283/.427 with 10 long balls, 34 runs and 47 RBI in 239 at-bats. Taylor will split time behind the dish with Chris Herrmann for however long Phegley is out, but it doesn't figure to be that long of an absence.
