Archer was named the Rays' Opening Day starter Thursday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

For the third consecutive year, Archer will take the mound on Opening Day as Tampa Bay's ace. Archer got off to a rocky start last season, notching a 4.66 ERA with 18 home runs allowed in the first half of the year before settling down with a 3.25 ERA and 1.01 WHIP after the All-Star break. He has looked sharp this spring, striking out 13 batters over 10.2 innings. Archer and the Rays will host the Yankees to start the season.
