The 36-year-old is batting second and functioning as the designated hitter against southpaw Braxton Garrett. More will be asked of McCutchen's bat while Bryan Reynolds (back) is sidelined. The veteran is slashing a dependable .264/.385/.425 with nine home runs, 24 RBI, and seven stolen bases across 260 plate appearances.
