Anderson scattered 10 hits and a walk over six innings, but only allowed two runs in Monday's loss to the Cardinals. Just one of the hits Anderson allowed went for extra bases, which allowed him to minimize the damage and preserve his 2.59 ERA for the season. He also managed to skirt the loss, as teammate Mark Trumbo supplied a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth inning to have the outcome decided by each team's relief corps. Anderson can't count on these kinds of positive results with stranding runners and avoiding hard hits every time out, which suggests his ERA could begin to fade from its lofty perch. However, such a regression may not be significant, as Anderson's 3.16 FIP shows some support of his vastly improved surface numbers this season.
