Alzolay finished 2017 with a 2.99 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 114.1 innings across High-A and Double-A.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old excelled at High-A Myrtle Beach to the tune of a 2.98 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 78 strikeouts in 81.2 innings, which earned him a promotion in July, and he continued to post strong numbers the rest of the season. The Cubs will likely want to see their No. 2 overall prospect carry over the success into a longer stint at Double-A Tennessee in 2018, but a promotion to Triple-A Iowa could be in the cards if Alzolay pitches well.
