Perez joined the Cubs' 60-man player pool Wednesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Perez has played everywhere except catcher over the course of his eight-year MLB career, so he'll be a useful depth option for the Cubs this season. He's unlikely to play a major role except in the event of an injury crisis, however, as he's a lifetime .252/.282/.387 hitter.
