Adam Wainwright lost a no-hit bid in the eighth inning Saturday, but settled for a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Rockies.
It was his sixth career shutout and his 12th complete game. Wainwright didn't give up his first hit until Nolan Arenado dumped a single into shallow left-center field with one out in the eighth inning. It snapped an 0-for-50 streak by Rockies' hitters if you include Shelby Miller's brilliant performance from Friday night. Wainwright struck out seven and walked one in the victory and holds a brilliant 2.30 ERA and 55/4 K/BB ratio in 58 2/3 innings over his first eight starts this season. He's looking like a Cy Young contender early on.
