The Rangers activated Calhoun (forearm) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Chris Halicke of SI.com reports. He'll serve as the Rangers' designated hitter and bat second against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Calhoun will be making his first appearance for the Rangers since June 26 after he was sidelined for nearly three months while recovering from left forearm surgery. He recently wrapped up a seven-game rehab assignment between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Round Rock, going 6-for-23 with a home run and four walks. Calhoun will likely fill a near-everyday role for the rest of the season as he looks to build a case for Texas to tender him a contract this offseason, when he'll be arbitration eligible for the first time.
