According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the Marlins have yet to discuss a contract extension with Giancarlo Stanton. The two sides were about to avoid arbitration by agreeing to a $6.5 million pact for the 2014 season, but a long-term extension was not broached during the negotiations. The Marlins would like to build their future around the budding superstar, and have plenty of time to iron out a deal before he hits free agency after the 2016 season.
