According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are closing in on a new contract with Juan Rivera. The two sides are discussing a one-year deal with a club option for 2013. Rivera, 33, played well after being acquired by the Dodgers in July, batting .273/.333/.406 with five homers, 46 RBI and a .740 OPS over 246 plate appearances. He would likely be the favorite to play left field in 2012, but could be a possibility for first base if the Dodgers non-tender James Loney.
