A second opinion from Dr. Lewis Yocum has confirmed that Daniel Hudson needs Tommy John surgery for the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. It's a tough blow for the Diamondbacks. Something obviously wasn't right with Hudson, as he posted a staggering 7.35 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over his 45 1/3 innings this year. He won't return until late in 2013. Josh Collmenter and Patrick Corbin remain the most likely candidates to fill his void in the rotation, though Tyler Skaggs could also be a dark-horse in the race.
