Ike Davis will start at first base in Thursday's game against the Braves. First base has been a position of constant change for the Mets in the first few weeks of the season, with manager Terry Collins moving between Davis, Lucas Duda and Josh Satin. Duda seemed to be handed an extended audition last week, but he went 2-for-13 in the days after and is back to being a part-time player. The position is wide open and begging for one of the three to run away with the job.

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the Mets "still see trading Ike Davis as the likely endgame." However, Martino notes that, as was the case over the offseason, the club is "still looking for something decent" in return. The Mets have decided to give Lucas Duda a long look at first base, so trading Davis is the most logical step at this point. He's making $3.5 million this season and is under team control through 2016. The Pirates, Brewers and Orioles were among the teams interested in Davis over the winter.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Thursday that beginning Friday, he plans to pick one first baseman and stick with him for a little while. It's the right idea, as it will be hard for anyone to distinguish themselves with Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, and Josh Satin all sharing playing time right now. Collins didn't say who he was leaning towards, but we'd give Davis the early edge. Satin should still see at-bats, but the Mets aren't slated to face any left-handed starters for a few days. It's a good time to make a decision.

Ike Davis is starting at first base for the Mets in Monday's season-opener against the Nationals. Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters that Josh Satin will start the club's second regular-season game against Nats left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Lucas Duda will likely start the Mets' third regular-season game. It's a position to avoid in all fantasy leagues.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed Tuesday that both Ike Davis and Lucas Duda will make the Opening Day roster. There was some speculation that the loser of the first base battle would begin the season in the minors, but it appears that the competition will continue into the regular season. The Mets will need a DH for a road interleague series against the Angels in early April, so it makes sense to keep both players around. We'd still give Davis the edge for now. Either way, Josh Satin should still get plenty of at-bats at first base against left-handers.

Ike Davis homered off Marlins closer Steve Cishek and walked in Saturday's win. It doesn't look like Davis will simply back into the Mets' first base job; he's 4-for-6 with three extra-base hits and two walks the last two days. He just returned Thursday after missing nearly three weeks with a calf strain.

Ike Davis went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a walk in the Mets' 9-1 drubbing of the Twins on Friday. Davis was the DH today. Lucas Duda started at first and hit his second homer of the spring, but Davis still outshined him by reaching in all four of his plate appearances. As long as Davis's calf holds up the rest of the way, he figures to be the Mets' Opening Day first baseman.

Ike Davis (calf) is in the Mets' Grapefruit League lineup on Thursday against the Braves. He'll start at first base in his first Grapefruit League game in nearly three weeks. Davis had been sidelined with a calf strain. The Mets are reportedly shopping him again to other teams, and he has about 10 days to impress visiting scouts in Florida.

Ike Davis (calf) is expected to play in a game Thursday. Davis has been shut down for over two weeks with a calf strain, but he's feeling much better now. The Mets are said to be shopping him to other teams, and he'll have a chance to impress visiting scouts over these final few weeks of Grapefruit League play.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has resumed shopping Ike Davis. Alderson is apparently calling up teams who he was in contact with during the winter, so the Pirates, Brewers, and Orioles are among the possibilities. Davis hasn't appeared in a game in more than two weeks due to a calf injury, so it's unlikely that a trade will be a legitimate possibility until he proves his health. His value is at rock bottom regardless.
