Gibaut was recalled by the Rays on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gibaut will be replacing Brendan McKay, who won't be needed again before the All-Star break. Gibaut could be up for more than just a few days if he can come anywhere close to replicating his minor-league numbers. He owns a 2.22 ERA in his five-year professional career, striking out 30.5 percent of opposing hitters. That strikeout rate is sitting at an incredible 40.0 percent in 9.1 innings for Triple-A Durham this season.

Gibaut allowed two runs on two hits and a hit batsman in one inning against Pawtucket on Thursday. He struck out three batters.
EDGE Analysis
The earned runs were the first Gibaut has given up through six total appearances this season -- Palm Beach hung a six-spot on the righty while he was rehabbing a lat injury with High-A Charlotte, but none of those were earned. His first three appearances back with Triple-A Durham were spotless outside of one walk issued. Gibaut is on the Rays' 40-man roster and could get his first major-league callup later this season when the team needs a fresh bullpen arm or two.

Gibaut (lat) will open the year on the 7-day IL with Triple-A Durham, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gibaut is perhaps the best reliever on a loaded Durham pitching staff, but a mild lat strain that he suffered in February is still bothering him. When he gets healthy, it may not be long before he joins the big-league bullpen. Long term, he profiles as a high-end setup man.

The Rays optioned Gibaut (lat) to their minor-league camp Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gibaut's slim chance of cracking the Rays' Opening Day bullpen effectively ended when he was diagnosed with a mild lat strain early in camp. The right-hander has yet to resume throwing and could open the 2019 campaign on Triple-A Durham's injured list.

Gibaut tweaked his right lat early in camp, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gibaut will see a doctor, though the Rays don't believe the issue to be a serious one. The 25-year-old was shielded from the Rule 5 draft over the offseason and is a candidate to make his debut at some point this year after recording a 2.09 ERA in 56 innings of relief for Triple-A Durham last season.
