Guillermo Mota has announced his retirement from baseball. Mota inked a minor league deal with the Royals in January but left camp on Friday, deciding that he'd rather spend time with his family. The 40-year-old had a nice big league career, posting a 3.94 ERA and 1.28 WHIP across parts of 14 seasons.

Royals signed RHP Guillermo Mota to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Mota turns 41 years old in July and did not play MLB-affiliated ball in 2013. He is highly doubtful to make a meaningful impact for the Royals this season.

Guillermo Mota wants to return to the major leagues. "Hell no. Are you crazy?" Mota said when asked if he had filed retirement papers. "I want to pitch two more years. I'm serious." The 40-year-old posted a 5.23 ERA over 26 appearances last season with the Giants, missing a good chunk of the year while serving a 100-game PED suspension. His best offseason offer was a minor league deal with the Orioles, which Mota declined. Mota will pitch in the Dominican winter league in hopes of attracting a big-league offer, but the veteran is surely setting himself up for disappointment. Mota's best-case scenario is another minor league offer next winter.

Guillermo Mota is considering signing a minor league deal with the Orioles. Mota posted a 5.23 ERA over 26 appearances last season with the Giants, missing a good chunk of the year while serving a 100-game PED suspension. The 39-year-old was pretty decent overall during his three years with the Giants, though, and wouldn't be a bad addition for depth purposes.

The Giants are not expected to re-sign Guillermo Mota, according to Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News. The Giants remain on the lookout for bullpen help, but they'll let Mota seek employment elsewhere. The veteran righty posted a 5.23 ERA over 26 games in 2012 while missing much of the season serving a 100-game suspension for a second positive PED test.

The Giants have finalized their roster for the NLDS, electing to carry 12 pitchers by including Guillermo Mota and George Kontos. By going with 12 pitchers, that means Aubrey Huff, Xavier Nady, Hector Sanchez, Ryan Theriot and Joaquin Arias will be the reserve players.

Giants reinstated RHP Guillermo Mota from the restricted list. Mota has been sidelined since May 7 while serving a 100-game suspension for a second positive PED test. The veteran right-hander returns to a 5.06 ERA and 9/4 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings this season. The Giants placed left-hander Jeremy Affeldt on the paternity leave list in a corresponding roster move.

Guillermo Mota will rejoin the Giants on Tuesday. Mota has been out since May 7, serving a 100-game suspension for a second positive PED test. The veteran right-hander will be eased back into high-leverage relief situations and is doubtful to hold any fantasy value.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Guillermo Mota is on track to rejoin the team on August 28, the first day he's eligible to be reinstated from suspension. Mota, of course, was suspended for a second positive test for a performance-enhancing drug. He's been throwing at the team's spring training complex in Arizona in order to keep his arm in shape.

Guillermo Mota will appeal his suspension for a second positive test for a performance-enhancing drug. However, as second-time offender, he must begin serving the suspension immediately. Mota tested positive for Clenbuterol, which is used mostly as a weight-loss supplement. The veteran righty has a 5.06 ERA and 9/4 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings this season.
