Free-agent outfielder Gerardo Parra is progressing toward a deal with the Washington Nationals, according to multiple sources. The 32-year-old was designated for assignment by the Giants on May 3 after batting just .198 through 86 at-bats to start the season. The Nationals will get Juan Soto back this weekend, so Parra will serve as a depth option in the outfield and won't have much fantasy value in any format when everyone is healthy.

The San Francisco Giants designated outfielder Gerardo Parra for assignment on Friday and called up outfielder Mike Gerber from the minors in a corresponding move. Parra, 31, hit just .198 with a homer and six RBI in 30 games with the Giants this season. Gerber, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Tigers last December and was hitting an impressive .357 with six long balls and 15 RBI for Triple-A Sacramento.
