Whitlock (hip) threw a simulated game Tuesday, but the Red Sox won't have him start during their three-game series in Cleveland this weekend, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
After completing a 20-pitch bullpen session last Saturday, Whitlock took another step forward three days later by facing hitters. When Whitlock was placed on the 15-day injured list June 10 with an inflamed right hip, the Red Sox had hope that he would be ready to go in the minimum amount of time, but he looks like he'll need at least a few additional days to get stretched back out. Whitlock is eligible to return this weekend, but the Red Sox have already announced Nick Pivetta, Josh Winckowksi and Rich Hill as their three starters for the Cleveland series. Whitlock will likely be re-evaluated within the next day or two before the Red Sox decide if he'll be ready to rejoin the big club next week or if he'll first require a rehab start in the minors.

Whitlock (hip) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Whitlock will throw another session Tuesday, which is expected to be longer than Saturday's bullpen. "He's trending in the right direction," Boston manager Alex Cora said. "At one point on the road trip, he'll be with us." Whitlock could be activated and start during the series in Cleveland beginning Thursday or during next week's series in Toronto.

EDGE Analysis
Whitlock resumed playing catch Friday and will quickly return to the mound after landing on the injured list June 10 with right hip inflammation. If all goes well Tuesday, the 26-year-old could rejoin Boston's starting rotation as early as the weekend.

Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Whitlock (hip) has resumed playing catch, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Whitlock has been on the injured list for a week, and the Red Sox are hopeful that he'll be able to rejoin the rotation after missing the minimum of 15 days. The right-hander is eligible to be reinstated as early as June 24.

Whitlock is doing well in his recovery from right hip inflammation and may miss the minimum 15 days, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Whitlock hit the injured list Friday, leaving him eligible to return June 24. It sounds like he'll have a chance to be activated when first eligible, though Nathan Eovaldi (back) will also be eligible to return that day, and it's possible one of them waits an additional day.

Whitlock was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right hip inflammation, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
EDGE Analysis
Whitlock's scheduled start for Saturday against the Mariners was up in the air, and he'll ultimately require an IL stint after being diagnosed with hip inflammation. Right-hander Phillips Valdez was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to take his place on the active roster, but it's not yet clear who will take Whitlock's place in the rotation. Although manager Alex Cora recently downplayed the severity of Whitlock's injury, a timetable for his return hasn't yet been revealed.

Whitlock is questionable to make his scheduled start Sunday against Seattle due to his hip injury, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Whitlock wasn't expected to miss any time due to his hip tightness, but the team is working on contingency plans in case the right-hander is unable to take the mound Sunday. Even if Whitlock doesn't start Sunday, it doesn't seem like the Red Sox are particularly concerned that his hip injury is a long-term issue.

Boston manager Alex Cora said Whitlock is dealing with hip tightness, but he's not expected to miss any time because of the injury, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cora noticed Whitlock favoring one leg during a start June 1, and the right-hander was roughed up by the Angels in his subsequent start. The manager indicated the condition is "nothing serious," while the pitcher said it's not bothering him when he pitches. "But obviously we have to take care of him," Cora said. "Maybe we can make adjustments as far as like his conditioning and all that. Instead of running outside, let's do it on the treadmill." Cora added that Whitlock will be ready for his next start, which is slated for Sunday in Seattle.

Whitlock allowed four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out five in four innings versus the Angels on Tuesday. He didn't factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Whitlock had some trouble with Mike Trout in particular, as the Angels' star outfielder hit a two-run home run and a double before exiting the game with groin tightness. Whitlock didn't do that well to settle in, and he was done after 71 pitches (47 strikes) in a shaky outing. The right-hander now has a 3.51 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB across 48.2 innings in 13 appearances (nine starts). He remains on a 2-1 record heading into his next start this weekend in Seattle.

Whitlock (2-1) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and zero walks over six innings against the Reds. He struck out zero.
EDGE Analysis
Whitlock was dominant and scattered five singles across six innings as he cruised to his second win of the season. However, he failed to record a strikeout for the first time as a starter this year, which limited his overall fantasy output. Regardless, the youngster still sports a 3.02 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP across eight starts and 44.2 total innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday's road matchup against the Angels.
