Francisco Cordero notched his 37th save of the year despite walking four batters over one inning in Tuesday's 13-inning win over the Mets. CoCo has managed to escape danger all year but this was extreme, even for him. With a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 13th, Cordero walked leadoff hitter Nick Evans. Evans was promptly picked off trying to steal. Cordero then walked Josh Thole and gave second base to pinch-runner Jason Bay on a balk. He then walked the next two batters before inducing a game-ending double play on a line drive off the bat of Justin Turner. Assuming he doesn't pitch Wednesday, Cordero posted a 2.45 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 2011 despite fanning just 42 batters in 69 2/3 innings.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Tuesday that he is optimistic about working out a new contract with closer Francisco Cordero in the near future. It sounds like the two sides are on the same page, as Jocketty said it will "probably" be a two-year deal. The Reds hold a $12 million club option for next season, but they are likely to decline and bring him back at a lesser annual salary.

Francisco Cordero told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer on Monday that he is optimistic about returning to the Reds next season. "They called my agent and talked about me coming back," said Cordero. "And they told me personally that they want me back. They know I want to come back." The Reds hold a $12 million club option on Cordero for next season, but they could decline and work out a multi-year deal for less money in order to bring him back.

Francisco Cordero notched his 34th save of the year in Tuesday's win over the Astros. He allowed one hit and no runs in protecting a two-run lead. CoCo has only struck out 40 batters all season, but his control has been good and he's posted a nice 2.43 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. The Reds have a $12 million option on Cordero for 2012, which they will not pick up, but Reds GM Walt Jocketty is open to discussing an extension with the veteran closer.

Francisco Cordero wants to remain with the Reds beyond this season. The Reds have a $12 million option on Cordero for 2012, which they surely won't pick up, but CoCo said he's willing to negotiate a new deal. Cordero has had a terrific season, posting a 2.41 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, but he'll turn 37 early next season, so giving him a multi-year contract would be risky.

Francisco Cordero picked up a win in relief after pitching a scoreless ninth against the Braves on Sunday. Cordero has had three clean outings in a row after giving up runs in four straight outings prior to the All-Star break. His job security was never really in question, but fantasy leaguers will appreciate the resurgence.

Attempting to protect an 8-7 lead in the ninth inning in St. Louis on Wednesday, Francisco Cordero blew his first save since May 25 (14 appearances), allowing a solo home run to Jon Jay. Cordero was just one of many Reds hurlers to falter this evening, as Cincinnati allowed St. Louis to come all the way back from an 8-0 deficit before eventually winning 9-8 in 13 innings. A disappointing night, but not a concerning one, as Cordero is coming off a June that saw him post a 0.90 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in 10 appearances. For the season, he is the owner of a 1.69 ERA and 0.88 WHIP to go along with 17 saves.
