Abad was charged with a run and let two inherited runners score in Tuesday night's win over Baltimore. In seven games over four innings for Boston, Abad has given up five runs on seven hits and three walks.
EDGE Analysis
If you want to know what an 11.25 ERA or a 2.50 WHIP looks like, check out Abad's line while with Boston. It appears Tuesday's outing was the final straw for manager John Farrell, who told Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald that he will stop using Abad in high-leverage situations for now and have Robbie Ross work setup when a left-hander his required. "We're going to have to get some work done to gain a little confidence and get him going," Farrell said. "We've used (the other bullpen lefty Robbie Ross Jr.) early in the game because he's got multi-inning capability. But we're probably going to have to shift that here a little bit."

Abad (1-6) was tagged by Red Sox hitters Wednesday, allowing two runs on two hits and lasting just 0.1 innings while taking the blown save and loss.
EDGE Analysis
The blown save was actually Abad's second since joining the Red Sox at the trade deadline, and raised his ERA to 3.19. Abad was hardly the only Boston reliever knocked around Wednesday, as the Yankees exploded for eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings off Red Sox relievers. Even with Craig Kimbrel day-to-day with knee soreness, Abad doesn't figure to get save opportunities for the Red Sox, as the blown save Wednesday was an obscure scoring fluke.

Abad allowed a three-run homer to the Mariners' Robinson Cano and was tagged with the loss and a blown save in Boston's 5-4 loss to Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to stepping into the box with two men on during the eighth inning Tuesday night, Cano had been 1-for-11 against Abad, who had held left-handed batters to a .180 batting average and .340 slugging percentage this season. A situation like this is precisely the reason why Boston acquired Abad. The newly acquired left-handed reliever left a curve ball out over the plate and Cano didn't miss it. The homer provided the winning margin in a game that Boston appeared to have in hand when entering the eighth inning with a 4-0 lead. Abad will get opportunities to make amends, but his Boston debut was a stunner.

Abad has been traded to Boston pending the completion of a medical review, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's not clear what the Twins are getting in return, but it may just be a player to be named later. Abad has had a bounce-back season with the Twins, but has struggled since the start of June by allowing eight runs in 14.2 innings with just a 11:9 K:BB. He'll add depth as a left-handed setup many for the Red Sox.

Abad gave up a run on two hits to take the loss and fall to 1-4 in Saturday's defeat to the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Abad has struggled since the start of June by allowing eighth runs in 14.2 innings with just a 11:9 KI:BB. Still, he's been the subject of trade talk as contending teams seek bullpen depth.

Abad gave up a run on a hit and two walks in one inning to take the loss Thursday against the White Sox. He was sidelined the past few days with back stiffness, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Abad is sharing the closer role with Brandon Kintzler, but he only has one save since the duo took over. Abad has given up five runs in 6.2 innings in June, so the sore back may be impacting his performance. He may get fewer save opportunities in the short term as a result.

Abad earned his first save of the year by retiring four batters without allowing a baserunner Wednesday against the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Abad was given a one-run lead and came on with nobody on base in the eighth inning, and then he retired the four batters he faced on only 13 pitches. Since becoming part of the closer committee for the Twins, he made good on his first save opportunity after blowing his only other chance on June 12.

Abad gave up a three-run home run to Didi Gegorious in Thursday's loss to the Yankees. It was the first homer he has allowed this season. He allowed one earned run in two-thirds of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
Abad was brought into the seventh inning of a tied game before surrendering the home run. Brandon Kintzler and Abad are splitting closing duties after Kevin Jepsen lost the closer role, but the Twins have had one save opportunity since the change and no pattern of usage appears clear. It looks like the Twins will mix and match Abad and Kintzler in the late innings.

Brandon Kintzler and Abad will split closing duties with Kevin Jepsen removed from the closer role, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kintzler got the first opportunity in Wednesday's win over Miami to record his first career save. As a right-handed pitcher, Kintzler would appear more likely to get save chances ahead of the left-handed Abad. However, Abad has been the better pitcher with a 0.87 ERA and 20:5 K:BB ratio in 20.2 innings. He's worth a look for saves in deeper formats as a result.

Abad surrendered two hits and a walk, but did not allow a run over 0.2 innings Thursday against Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Abad made his fourth straight scoreless appearance, giving him 17 out of 18 on the season. The 30-year-old reliever continues to be used in situations where one or two outs need to be made as 10 of his 18 appearances have lasted less than an inning. Even though he's only given up one earned run over 15.1 innings, he holds little to no fantasy value given it's unlikely he'll usurp the closer's role and he takes the hill only once every two or three games.
