The right-hander's strong start has been an especially welcome development after a rough spring in which he posted a 10.80 ERA in five appearances. The fact Swanson pitched to so much contact is at least somewhat concerning when factoring in he's once again projected to be a key middle-relief component of Seattle's bullpen, but Daniel Kramer reports the 28-year-old had some of the best quality of contact numbers on the Mariners in 2021, a season in which he recorded a save and five holds alongside a 3.31 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 33 appearances.

Swanson recorded his fifth hold in a win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday, firing a perfect seventh inning.

EDGE Analysis

It's been a bit of a rocky road for Swanson during the second half of the season, with the right-hander giving up multiple runs in three appearances. Swanson had also yielded at least one run in four of his previous five trips to the mound entering Saturday, but the quick work he made of the Diamondbacks in his first appearance in a week was a reminder of how effective he's often been in a season where he's forged a 2.48 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.
