Mariners purchased the contract of OF Endy Chavez from Triple-A Tacoma. He's taking Michael Saunders' (shoulder) roster spot. Chavez will back up at all three outfield positions.

Mariners signed OF Endy Chavez to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. Chavez was released by the Royals Friday but didn't take long to find another gig. He'll likely begin the season at Triple-A Tacoma.

Endy Chavez went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a walk against the A's on Sunday. It's taken a bunch of injuries to put Chavez back into Baltimore's plans -- anyone of Nick Markakis, Nolan Reimold, Wilson Betemit or Jim Thome probably would have started over him today if healthy -- but he made the most of his opportunity and he's now 6-for-11 with two walks since his recall on Sept. 11. He'll likely continue to see quite a bit of action against righties.

Orioles purchased the contract of OF Endy Chavez from Triple-A Norfolk. Chavez, 34, is batting just .190 with two homers, eight RBI and a .503 OPS in 47 games with the Orioles this season. He'll provide some depth in the outfielder with Nick Markakis (thumb) on the mend.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun writes that Endy Chavez is expected to clear waivers by Friday. Chavez was designated for assignment by the Orioles over the weekend. If he clears waivers, Connolly would be surprised if he didn't accept a minor league assignment with Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles plan to activate Endy Chavez (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game. Chavez was hitless in four at-bats with Low-A Delmarva on Tuesday after going 0-for-4 with the O's Gulf Coast League affiliate on Monday. He is slated to play in two more games with Delmarva before rejoining the Orioles. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined since mid-June with a strained right hamstring.
